Colts 1st vs Sherborne

Marlborough triumphed in hardly fought match 3-2 this Saturday. During the early stages Marlborough were under the cosh but a good defensive clearance led to a break upfield; Orlando mace was put through with a wonderfully weighted pass by Mahdi Hussain and slotted from a tight angle to put us 1-0 up. A tough period of pressure and a defensive mix up let to Sherborne equalising on the stroke of half time.

Half time 1-1

Marlborough once again had to suck up the pressure in the first 15 minutes of the second half, with Freddie Coen, Jack Redmayne and Ben Cooper producing superb, controlled defensive play and limiting Sherborne to few clear chances despite their dominance in possession. Marlborough rallied to take the lead through Mahdi Hussain. The ball was crossed in by Marcus Redpath, who made a huge impact after coming on early in the second half, and Mahdi was brave to throw himself in there and loop his header over the keeper at the back post. This position further improved with 10 minutes to go as Marcus Redpath collected the ball outside the box and hit a left footed screamer into the top right corner. The game was far from over as Sherborne continued to pile the pressure onto our defence. With 2 minutes to go a Sherborne corner skidded across goal and was bundled in at the back post. Though in truth the game was over at this point and it was a consolation goal. We held out for the remaining two minutes for the best win of the season so far against very tough opposition.

Full time: 3-2 Marborough
