Match Report
Marlborough College 4th Junior Colts vs  Eton College
On: Saturday, 18 Sep 2021
Venue: Away

The game was going to be uncontested scrums and line-outs to offer the team another week to develop the key skills of the game.

After the first 5 minutes though we played with such spirit and precision that we managed to record the 1st try after a sweeping move and Alexander Timmis touched down in the corner. This caught us by surprise and as we scurried around looking for a cone for the conversion, Jasper Grafton stepped up and kicked through from the tight angle. That stunning offensive play was in stark contrast to our defence and Eton strolled through with some poor tackles from Marlborough and recorded their first try. Our joy was short-lived but the non conversion kept us in front.

Ben Coles intervened after the 1st 20 minute third and gave the defence some strong advice and this played out well even though we conceded 3 more tries. Amongst this though we could see real improvement and Vlad Chusov was having a heroic game. The constant threat of Yuta Yamamoto with his strong and brave incisions into the Eton defense allowed the fleet footed duo of Nate Hasler and Dillon Whatley to cause concern. Hasler scored under the post and Grafton coolly converted again. All the time, captain Charlie Alkin and Casper Caddy were causing havoc with their efforts.

At what would've been 20 - 14, some sustained pressure from Marlborough saw a late but well deserved try and it meant a conversion from Grafton could win the game and he duly obliged with another sublime strike. Tenacity and composure were 2 attributes Grafton showcased today but good supporting efforts from Freddie Vine were also noted.
